Trip Report

Entry Date: September 04, 2015
Entry Point: Trout Lake
Number of Days: 4
Group Size: 3

Trip Introduction:
We planned to get to Cummings via the LIS, but the bush had other plans for us.

Day 2 of 4

Friday, September 04, 2015 This would be our second trip into the bdub, but we're without one of our groupmates - so only 3 of us ventured into the wild in one canoe.

We entered the eastern side of Vermilion around 8am with hopes to get is far up Trout lake as we could on day 1. Luckily we had some strong winds going with us and we were able to cover 15 miles on big water. We reach Little Trout Lake around 3pm hoping to stay on the island on the north end of the lake. We make our way up and find that there is no sign of a campsite at all. I really should have done my homework, because I now clearly see that no one has ever rated this site before.. We check the NW site and it's already in use, which was a bummer because the next closest site is on the exact opposite side of the lake. We paddle into heavy winds across and to our delight find an open site to claim. It's a pretty simply small site, but there is a nice sandy beach to take a dip in after a long day of paddling. We drift off into the night with hopes to hop on the LIS river in the morning and make it all the way to Cummings...or so we hope.

Day 3 of 4

Monday, September 07, 2015

We break down camp around dawn and venture back to Trout Lake via Pine Creek. Luckily Hunter's brother met us on Vermilion to tow us back to our car. We made decent time.

All-in-all it was a good trip. It didn't go as planned, but that's how it goes up there. Our mantra for the weekend was 'you never know in the bdub'...oh so true.

Till next time!

Day 5 of 4

Today we participate in sorts of shenanigans in our little bay haven. We catch fish, go swimming, all sorts of fun activities. It was a day we needed after the hell we went through. Later in the day we hike to the NW side of our site and find a great spot to fish off a cliff. Kyle throws in a cast and immediately catches a nice walleye. Like seconds after the bait goes in the water. The next two casts are also immediate catches. This is the spot! Unfortunately as soon as we catch those 3 a storm comes in real quick! We're a good 10 minute hike from our site and we book it back in the rain. Of course we had all our crap sprawled throughout the site. We rush to get everything under cover. I'll admit I was real bummed after finding the jackpot spot. The rain only last about an hour or two and we were left with the most gorgeous orange sky I'd ever seen. The rest of the night was clear and the stars blanketed the skies. We were joined by a big frog (we named Wally) and he hung out with us for the remainder of the night. Even when we shooed him away, he kept hoping back. I suppose everyone wants a little company now and then.
