We get going by 8:15, work our way down the Horse River—the water levels are much higher than we are used to in August and really only have to use the 3 main portages plus 2-3 lift overs to Horse Lake. By 1:15 we are in the Mudro Lake parking lot packing up. We clean up at our room at the Super 8 and head to Sir G’s for some Pizza and beer. Relaxed and recovered we head home the next day.

CHainsaw Sisters is unfortunately gone. We miss the beer on the porch we used to get here.

The unseasonably cold weather made the campfires more enjoyable, but swimming was pretty much non-existent. So there is always an upside/downside to everything--ya just gotta go with the flow and make the best of it. We say this after every trip, but it was one of our best. Fishing was slower than what we were used to but still good. We really did not spend a lot of time fishing. Caught 12-15 walleyes from 20-26", 10 lakers all over 5#, even though we never intentionally targeted then caught about 50 smallies mostly dinky but a couple were 19-20", never fished for Northerns but caught about 5 in the medium range, and about 4-5 Large mouth bass from 1-3#. No lunkers this year but except for the smallies it was primarily quality over quantity.
