July 31 (Aug 1 in my journal, and I knew July had 31!) – Crooked Sailing - We checked out the pictographs on Lac La Croix and were excited to see the spear man, this is a great pictograph site. We took the Bottle Portage, take the high road here, and swung over to see Rebecca Falls. We thought we would come in below the falls, WRONG. We moved on to Curtain Falls which was one of the most beautiful of the trip, and entered Crooked. J had been after me to sail, after checking out the pictographs on Crooked, I agreed. The wind was with us and we had a good time sailing. We used a tarp as a spinnaker and I had the rudder. The lake was empty until we got to the east end of the lake and we lamented the lack of an audience for our sailing. There were a couple of canoes at the east side that enjoyed our sailing and took some pictures. We entered Basswood River discovering that the current was stronger than it looked. We camped on a nice site on a point just short of Table Rock. There was a large number of eagles on Basswood River.
