July 29 – On the road again - We fished Russell in the morning. It was a beautiful day but the fish were uncooperative. We caught a couple of small pike and a small Smallmouth. Our fishing was…small. We decided to leave and as a result we lost count of our days. I totally ignored the date on my watch and as a result we came out a day early, duh! It probably cost us an outstanding fishing day. We ran the rapids into Sturgeon. This part of Sturgeon is beautiful. At one point I noticed a bunch of Mergansers sitting on a rock. We paddled over to take a picture and they moved off. It turned out to be a total of nine adult Mergansers. Sturgeon was a long, but easy paddle. We made for the sand peninsula campsite but those YMCA gals had beaten us to it. We made a make-shift camp on an island near the sand peninsula. We did check out the boat beached near the camp. Our camp was the worst one of our trip. The trees we used were just usable. There were three trees in a row and we had a common attachment to the middle tree, which was the smallest. When we were both in our hammocks, the tree was in a state of equilibrium. However, when one of us got out of our hammock the tree swayed towards the other hammock and down you went. It was like sleeping on a seesaw and not knowing when the other person might jump off. We set out alarm for 5AM and…
