Part 9 of 9
Friday, August 2 The dripping all night on the tent turned out to be drops off the trees. The day dawned calm, with a beautiful morning fog. We were in no hurry to pack, as we had a very short paddle to the take out. We enjoyed our morning as we waited for the sun to burn off the fog.
The portage path to the parking lot was delightful in the sun, with wild flowers along it. We all posed for a last group photo, as one of us was driving separately back home. We all agreed that it was a great trip, even with all the hard parts that the Quetico could dish out in terms of weather. Some new friendships were made, and a deeper appreciation of the riggers of wilderness canoeing in our senior years. And a special thanks to Ron for all the work and effort to organize the trip. One thing we also all agree upon; no more 100 lb aluminium canoes! Ron, you have to get a new canoe!
For myself, we now had a two day drive to the International Terminal at Chicago O'hare to catch my Saturday evening flight back to Tel Aviv. I then had 15 hours of flying, including a nine hour layover in Warsaw. I had two requests on the way to the airport; to buy Wisconsin cheese as a present for my wife, and the other to have a last meal in the US of Kentucky Fryed Chicken! Yes, that is my favorite American junk food! The cheese was no problem, and I ended up adding four pounds to my suitcase. And low and behold, at our last stop for gas on the Wisconsin-Illinois border there was a Kentucky Fryed Chicken!
It was a joy to see my wife waiting for me at the small bus stop in our Galilee village on Tuesday morning. Three days in my suitcase just made the cheese a bit stronger! Plus almost two weeks of absence just made our love a bit stronger! As long as we are blessed with good health, we hope to continue paddling, but next time together, in the second most beautiful place in the world, the Northwood's canoe country! The first most beautiful is Galilee, Israel!
