Honoring Memories and Traditions
by Spartan2
This day was spent in Grand Marais. I did laundry in the morning and Spartan1 and Anna spent some time at the harbor. After lunch at the Blue Water Cafe (Anna says the Pie Place Maple Pecan pie is "the best pie in the world" and they have it there now), we headed to Artist's Point so that she could do the hike with Grandpa.
Climbing on rocks is another tradition. I am not sure it began in 2007. At least there are no photos of rock-climbing that far back. Maybe Grandma was too busy holding her little hand to hold the camera, too! ;-) But our girl loves the water, loves the wildlife, and LOVES the rocks! The hike at Artist's Point is right up her alley! I stayed back and photographed along the Lake Superior shore, and the rock-climbing girl and her grandfather enjoyed their time together on a beautiful sunny day, hiking to the point, and also to the lighthouse.
Just one of Grandpa's photos:
and some of Anna's photos, too:
You can see them in silhouette in this photo as they are headed out to the lighthouse:
On this evening we had our supper at Trail Center and then we decided to drive out on the Lima Grade Road to see a moose! (It was a suggestion I had read on BWCA.com in a posting by Ozarkpaddler.) We didn't have any luck with that venture, but we did discover a big "lake" over the road, and end up having to back up, turn around, and bump our way back out! It wasn't the best addition to a long day, but we just chalked it up to another story to remember. That's what this is all about, after all. Making memories!
