Tuesday, July 03, 2018 - Fishing the 2nd slough on the 3rd of July

Back at the mouth of the slough my son’s friend Chris catches the biggest pike of his life which was a 14.5 lb pike; five minutes later he beats it with a 16.5 lbs pike.

While we did not plan for this, it’s downright hot in Alaska. We get sunburns and my brother suffers from a mild case of heat exhaustion. I end up setting up the tarp just to get some relief from the sun and we hang out in camp sweating and waiting for the sun to lower so we can go back out for some more fishing.

We have a 2nd meal of poor man’s lobster and again the crew is pleased with the outcome. Today marks a special day for my brother and me as it was 25 years prior that our mother lost her battle with cancer. A week after her passing, my brother and I took a two week trip up to the BWCA in through Lac La Croix and Iron Lake; it’s good that 25 years later we are still paddling together.
