Day 10 of 10
Sunday, September 03, 2017 Our last day on the water. Our tow at Hook is scheduled for 1 or 2. Paddling down the back channel, we take the "little back door" out of the Saganagons and head for Silver Falls. It's a warmer day and we work up a lather on the portage. Sunny celebrates after our last portage. Paddling into Cache Bay, we are greeted by flat water....barely a ripple! We have time, so we paddle down to the SW corner and pull through into the back bay to check out the pictos. Quite an awesome display. We have seen a lot of pictos on this trip and we are always quiet, reverent, respectful and leave a tobacco offering at each site. Lunch is taken on the tip of the peninsula leaving the south bay. A slight westerly breeze has come up and it aids us in crossing Cache and Sag and we reach Hook island with time to spare so we hang up some tents and tarps to dry in the sun and breeze. Our tow is on time and soon we are back at Seagull. Total trip.....around 91 miles. Sunny has been the camp cook for most of the trip so Kip and I take him to the Trail Center for a steak supper and a few brews toasted in kanoe's memory. The bunkhouse at Seagull is quite full on our last night. We still have some growlers and enjoy some good conversation and brews with some other trippers, sharing our trip and looking at their upcoming trips. Off to bed and in the morning, Kip and I say goodbye to Sunny and we are all off for home. It was a fantastic trip. RIP brother Jan.....it was a pleasure tripping with you.
