Breakfast wasn't the earliest, but we didn't have too far to travel. The cinnamon roll was just as good as always, and half of it ended up in a carry-out box. They now serve beer and wine at Naniboujou, so I celebrated with a mimosa.

It was time for one more farewell look at the lake, and to toss back a few rocks. Perhaps so that she can find them again someday? One in particular was a favorite, and you can see her photographing it in one of the pictures.

This was a gorgeous sunny morning. After the bittersweet trip down to the shore to return the rocks, we packed up and were on the road by 10:40. It was 66 degrees, very breezy, and we could hear the surf roaring as we got into the car.

We stopped briefly in Grand Marais to buy our yearly supply of Wild Country Maple Syrup. Then when we were approaching Two Harbors we tried to stop for lunch at Betty's Pies. A 45-55 minute wait was just too long. So we returned to Judy's for our lunch. The hash browns weren't as good this time, and we had a family sitting behind us with five screaming kids. Not as much fun! But the pie was good. In my opinion, not as good as Betty's, but it would have to do.

We traveled the scenic drive to Duluth, and it was pleasant seeing the big lake on our left, bright blue and full of whitecaps.

There is a coffee shop in Spooner, Wisconsin called Alley Cats. We have stopped there several times before and we always enjoy it.

Anna likes green tea.

Our night stop was in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, at the Hampton Inn and Suites. It seemed an odd coincidence that we ended up in the same room that we had last year! So we decided to go to the same restaurant for our dinner as well. Since Anna has taken three years of Japanese in school, and since she actually traveled with her class for two weeks in Japan last summer. . .it just seems appropriate to dine at "Sakura".

After dinner we played "Five Crowns" and Anna won big yet again. Then I challenged Anna to one last game of "Perquackey", and I won HUGE!! Almost enough points in the second round to have won the game outright--and I missed two big words ("respond" and "responder") that would have given me the record all-time score! It was a fun way to end the evening.
