The Long Trip
by Spartan2
Layover day
My plans for a nice layover to wash up, enjoy the sun, and get dried out were foiled! A cold (50 degrees) and very damp morning meant that we slept late, had a cold breakfast in the tent, and spent most of the day reading, napping, and keeping warm and dry. [Back in those days we didn't take a tarp.] The tent wasn't wet inside, but everything was beginning to feel damp.
Spartan1 built a fire about noon and we had soup with our lunch. That helped me to keep spirits up on an uncomfortable day. My aches and pains were becoming more bearable, too.
Seems like on every trip there is the obligatory biffy photo.
When the temperature is colder the mosquitoes are not nearly as bad! That is one benefit of the nasty weather!
After supper we went for a paddle around our part of the lake. It was cold and windy and felt more like October than June--but then I suppose we needed to remember that it is still SPRING and not really summer, and we are in the northland. We saw a beaver and four beaver lodges during our paddle. After we came back we retired to the tent again to keep warm.
