DAY 5, SEPTEMBER 1, MAPLE TO KIOSHKOKWI AND RESUPPLY; 11.25miles, 6 portages (140, 820, 650, 130, 190, and 900 meters; again, almost 2 miles of portage) and a couple beaver dams.

Up with the sun again and on the water by 8:30. Tia was especially looking forward to the day's route down Maple Creek because the shallow, meandering stream might offer some wildlife sightings. The route has six rapids/falls sections that must be portaged around, and a couple of these portages are a bit steeper with sketchier footing than others we've been on so far. Most of today's portage landings were rocky and small. We were again on our destination lake, Kioshkokwi, before noon. We paddled toward the east end of the lake and found a nice campsite to claim for the night. Had lunch, pitched the tent, and then paddled ~15 minutes to the Kiosk put-in, where we swapped excess snacks, a folding saw, an empty fuel canister and other useless weight from our packs for food and fuel for Days 6-10. I also bought a book on Algonquin's history at the ranger station. We've never done a mid-trip resupply before, but may try it again, as we appreciated the lighter packs for single-walking portages. Back at our site we set up a bath tub, cleaned bodies and clothes, rigged a bear bag hang, then Tia caught up her journal notes and we had afternoon tea/coffee and reviewed the maps for the second half of our adventure. We also explored part of the old rail corridor that was behind the campsite and is now maintained as a trail.
