Started from Kawnipi knowing full well the Falls Chain would not be easy and with the lesson of yesterday providing caution. As I fell asleep last night I awoke out of half-sleep. A canoe was tipping on top of me in my dream state.

The current was strong but less than to the north. We took each set of falls one at a time, bushwhacking when we needed to. The sheer volume, the amount of water! How long until it goes back to normal levels? With no rain, maybe a week or two.

We've done the Falls Chain over a half dozen times. One of the biggest threats now is getting swept into the inflow of a falls at the end of a portage going upstream. But on the portage approach you have to deal with fast water wanting to turn you or keep you from an exit that is very close to violent water!

So we conquered the Falls Chain and encountered people who had NO BUSINESS approaching it. Overweight...little experience in a canoe...a dad in back, mom in front, and a young child sitting in the middle...people who look like this was their first or second time in a canoe. We saw teenagers without life jackets on. Lord, have mercy and keep them safe! Going with the current is dangerous enough, but when they turned against the current to get back...

Due to the amount of people on sites on Saganagons we pitched at a recently waterlogged site near Silver Falls. One more set of rapids to navigate...one more portage to take..one more current to fight until we got to the big water of Cache Bay and Saganaga.

Route: Kawnipi; Kennebas Falls; Kenny; Maligne; Canyon Falls; Koko Falls; Little Falls; Maligne; Bald Rock; Saganagons
