Covid wont stop us this time... Quetico 2024
by marc24
Morning broke, and the 3 of us, minus the young guy went to do some early morning fishing. My Dad and I cruised the shoreline taking advantage of the nice, calm conditions and caught our fair share of fish. Nothing spectacular, but enough to keep us interested. We returned to camp for some standard oatmeal and to relax for a bit. Wesley informed us the weather today should be pretty decent so my brother and I decided to spend our last full day in Quetico chasing fish. We fished for about 2 hours, struggling to find much so we headed for the outflow of water from Sunday into Basswood. I hooked a monster walleye but got off at the boat and my brother lost a nice bass too. We beached the canoe and walked to the other side of the rapids where we proceeded to catch some of the best fish of the trip. It's no secret, fish where the fish are and flowing water always produces. We kept two beautiful walleye for one last fish fry and returned the rest to swim another day.
It was about 3:00 PM and we headed back to filet and devour our catch. The size of the fish made fileting them very easy. We left the remains on a rock far away from camp, hoping the bear would enjoy them more than he would enjoy us. It was not a great day of fishing quantity wise, but the quality was there when we finally found them.
Tomorrow was leaving day, and the weather forecast was ominous to say the least. Potential for torrential rains, floods, hail, tornadoes....thats all we needed to hear. We tried to organize and get all our fishing gear organized so we could roll out ASAP in the morning. We figured at some point we may get pushed off the water and we had a tow boat to catch at Prairie Portage. It was scheduled for 10 AM , so we all went to bed hoping and praying for the best.
