Hey folks,

Anyone have some personal experience on camps at the west end half of Beaverhouse? There are plenty of sites listed on various maps and GPS locations, but I would like a few personal recommendations from "I have been there" paddlers.

We will have one tent and two hammocks. Prefer a site protected from north and west winds.

Don, I have asked about western BH campsites before and got very little info. (Did you also post on QJ?) I think there was one island site that I marked on my map -- I will look and see if I can find it. I hope you get some info -- I wanted to get there last year but on my last day I was too tired to do the seven-mile paddle. --Goose

I paddled the western side of Beaverhouse about 10 years ago. I wish I would have documented it better because I have very little to offer. All I can say is we camped on an island and more or less made a campsite. There was an old fire ring but it looked like nobody had camped on the site for many years. I remember that it was nice but the site was full of moss and we had to clear some dead falls out of the way to make room for us humans. Since almost everyone goes east on Beaverhouse I don't think there is much traffic on the western shores.

I don't know of anyone else that has paddled that way.

There's a nice site on the south western most island in that clump of islands towards the north eastern end of lake. Could have fit 10 tents I think. Leaves western end of lake an hour and a half to two and a half away. Beautiful and slightly hidden site. I think 1V on PCD - landing on north side in cove. Pictures in my trip report.

I have a data base that says there are 34 campsites on Beaverhouse, but few people actually camp there, so I'd be highly suspicious of it.
here are the co-ordinates of the only two on the western portion I would have a reasonable expectation of being useable:

That second one is I think the one I spoke of - 1V in the PCD - and not too far west. The other is 1A.

I just suspect there are at least a couple of great sites - if you can find them.

Goose ~ Thanks for this thread. I thought of asking this question also. I am going in thru Beaverhouse / Quetico in early June and considered southwestern Beaverhouse for my last night just out of curiosity like you mentioned. I was hoping for more responses here but in hindsight I find it even more intriguing now. The less posts, the less people know, the less people are there. A traditional camp sight is not important as I use a hammock and backpacking gear. Dispersed camping I believe it is called. You and Bill have helped with my trip planning. Would this thread be better in the just Q Forum? I read that Beaverhouse is not actually in Quetico, is that correct? Are there different guidelines there?

It's a neat area, and several threads have pondered the south west Beavehouse area. Glad I could help a little.

Chrismar shows all of Beaverhouse is in Quetico PP.

Thanks Bill. Keep up the good posts. I stand corrected, McKenzie shows it in the Q also.
Since you have been there, which map do you recommend as a primary?

I have not been to Beaverhouse since 1999, so the following may not be up to date or accurate, it was (still is?) one of the 1st nations motor lake, and it probably still is since the river comes up there, the good news is that it is a pass through lake, few people fish there. I used this entry quite a bit in the 90's, never saw a camper or someone fishing that lake, never saw a motor either.

I like mckenzie maps but carry mckenzie, fisher, and charismar. I usually keep the mckenzie on top in my map case. I always check charismar for portages and have been marking fishers with pcd sites.

Many thanks to all who have responded. I realize there is little info on the western end due to only a few people who pass through as well as it being trafficked in the eastern end as passage to other destinations.
