Nice report! That's one heck of a summer for you. Again, welcome to the hangers club. With those big Warbonnet tarps (I use the superfly) it makes it easy to stay dry in any conditions.

Hope to see many more pics.

Everyone says hammocks are great sleeping - but I keep wondering what happens when it rains sideways? I would think it's impossible to stay dry. In any event, thanks for writing and posting the report."

Thanks, Alpine. All I can say about staying dry in the hammocks is that I did. During my solo it rained eight nights out of 11. I believe it was the wettest May on record in MN. On the Q trip it rained every one of the first 7 nights, including the hardest rain I've ever experienced at night while camping. In each case there were times with significant wind. So, while it may "seem" impossible to stay dry empirical evidence indicates otherwise.

2 great reports. You guys covered some ground in Quetico. I noticed in one of your picks you have a nice hammock underquilt. What kind is it? Did it keep you warm? I have used hammock on 3 difft trips and love them, but I get cold sometimes. I thnk I need an underquilt."

My underquilt is a 20* Phoenix (3/4 length) from hammockgear. I had a few nights in the 30s and it was great.

It did fine, Dan. Almost all the scratches I came out with were a result of pushing through trees in the PMA. Just no avoiding those. I did get one scratch in a small set of rapids when I got lazy and wandered left when I knew I needed to stay in the middle.

I enjoyed your trip report. We went in to Knife Lake on June 15th. So I can see that you experienced some of the same weather we did for your Quetico trip. Looking forward to reading your report when you post it.
We have decided after our Knife Lake trip and seeing Sooo many people on the portages and campsites that we really need to go back to Quetico. The Man chain is one of our favorite places on earth!

Looking forward to the pics. Sorry your solo had to be cut short, but it still sounds like a good one. Glad you were well enough to do the Quetico trip - looking forward to the report. I like the idea of the woodburner/alcohol stove combo and have often wondered how it would work out.

Welcome home, wow sounds like a cool trip. Too bad for the leg problem. Glad you like the Hammock, welcome to the hangers club.
