I'm glad that you made it through the rough start and had a great time. With each trip you will get more refined, packing lighter, and bringing less. Most people over prepare, which for safety is a good thing. Sometimes double portaging is safer than single portaging. Many people comment how much they enjoy the scenery on the empty trip. Looking forward to reading another trip report from you in the future.

sounds like an excellent first trip!
over the coming years and trips you will find all the things you love about tripping in the BWCA.. it might be different on each trip. at some point you might enjoy double tripping portages because you'll want to take photos and show all of us why you love canoe tripping! you might eventually notice people on this site are gear hounds... it seeps into your mind and soul without even knowing it and all of a sudden you have packs and pads and stoves and maps... !!!

it sounds like you and your buddy are good at solving problems and making the best of any situation. can't wait to hear more from your trips.

I enjoyed your report - it took me back to the learning experience of my first trips! You guys sound like pretty fast learners. Learning more about paddling and portaging makes it a lot easier. . . and more fun.

I enjoyed reading how quickly you learned and adapted. You can read about something as much as you want, theren't nothing like doing it and figuring it out on your own. Hope you make many more trips and write up the trip reports.
