The pike you hooked but couldn't get the lure out is probably fine.

Here's an interesting article regarding that exact scenario:
How long for a fish to shake a lure?

I enjoyed your report. Glad that you had some good weather to enjoy - better on the travel in and out than during the stay. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for reading and thanks for the article. I'm an academic and I love seeing studies with direct applications. I was always taught to cut off gut-hooked fish, so it seems everyone's in agreement. I just never knew the same went for big bulky crankbaits.

For anyone else who likes to read the scientific source. You can read the abstract and highlights without access ScienceDirect.

Very nice report. You should see if Dad wants to make an annual tradition. I took my Dad when he was 66 for his first time. We based camped on Ogishkemuncie but he never wanted to go again. It seems like your Dad is an outdoors type.

I've been to Insula twice and have stayed on Williamson Island both times. If you go there it's possible to walk the shore all the way around. Great sitting rocks there.

I also have to say how weird it was for you to get rained on only when travelling. Nice pics too.
