Entry Point 1 - Trout Lake

Trout Lake entry point allows overnight paddle or motor (25 HP max). This entry point is supported by La Croix Ranger Station near the city of Cook, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 30 miles. Access from LakeVermilion via 60-rod canoe portage or 180-rod portage that allows the use of portage wheels. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Sounds like a good time. I've done most of that loop twice before and it's a good one. I agree on the campsite offer. Unless it's an emergency, dark, etc they can stay elsewhere.

I went that route with my son last year in August.
We stopped at LBF and camped the first night and then two nights in wednesday bay and then all the way out through Moosecamp Lake and River and Fourtown. That was an incredibly long day. We had planned another 2 nights but all the sites were booked and we had to keep going. Those portages out of Fourtown are no joke when you are exhausted!


I want to go back to Crooked but I want to go a different way next time.


This year we are going to LLC via #16 and will be basecamping around Tiger Bay and will do a day trip over to Curtain Falls. It's gonna be tough to not just pack up and head to Crooked! LOL
