Entry Point 38 - Sawbill Lake

Sawbill Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Tofte Ranger Station near the city of Tofte, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 25 miles. Access is a boat landing at Sawbill Lake. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

That sounds like a heck of a loop! Frost river and Zenith portage.

Great Trip! Lots of memories in that area, but only once over the Frost River.

Is it the portage out of Pencil that is marked incorrectly on maps, and is actually on the opposite side, or is that a different portage? I am looking for my notes.

Portage from Pencil to Frost river is to the left (south) of where it is marked on the Fisher map.

Good video. I enjoyed the different camera viewpoints even though you were alone. The portages bring back memories of many similar portages. Not always good memories, but still made me a little homesick, for want of a better word. Succeeding against difficulties is part of the package.
