Great trip report. I do like the look of a burn area also. The regeneration is amazing. Nice job finding a few Lakers. I hate to tell you this but there is a fairly well worn portage trail from Missing Link to Mavis. It isn't a highway but it certainly is not a bushwack. Here is a link to a YouTube video starting at Mavis and ending at Missing Link. Mavis Portage

The DNR stocked Brookies in Mavis as recently as 2013. I have reliable information that those Brookies are still in there. You'll get 'em next time.

Enjoyed reading your report. You'd have liked Little Sag if you made it there.

I saw that someone had been to Mavis this spring, but I wasn't able to identify the end of the portage from the lake.
The DNR stocking report mentioned stocking 1000 brookies in 2018, and I saw lots of small fish on my finder. I just didn't seem to have any luck catching anything.
That trail sure would have been nice to spot!

Someone else mentioned that their favorite lake was Little Sag.

We were on the portage between Missing Link and Snipe 4 times last summer. 3 out of the 4 times, someone stopped me and asked if I knew where the portage to Mavis was located. With that many people looking, you would think it would be a little more obvious. I don't think any of them found it, though. I watched the video and at least now I know to tell them to look for that big rock.

Very nice report I enjoyed it. I couldn't imagine using an 8 ft. kayak in the BW though. And that's a real nice laker at the very end of the report. Thanks for the write up and pics.
