The visuals of Hog Creek so low were a shocking reference to the low waterways I've been reading about. It's so much more work to travel the creek which has always been an easy, casual paddle on my trips there.
Oh, yes! on wolves howling. Still wishing for the sounds of singing wolves on my trips.

I can't get your link to work.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

I am just shocked by how far the water has fallen in the 30 days since I paddled this section. At the entry point, Hog Creek looks more like a stagnant drainage ditch than a flowing creek. But how lucky were you to hear those wolves! I have never seen one inside the BWCA and have only heard them 2 or 3 times. On winter trips I do see lots of fresh prints - they are around us more than we know!

As others have said, it was shocking to see the lack of water in the lakes and rivers. I went through that country in the spring of 2009. The water levels were ideal and my experience was worlds apart from yours. Thanks for sharing your experience.

That trip was May 26, 2009 to June 6, 2009. We continued on after Isabella Lake to the Route 1 Highway bridge that crosses the Kawishiwi.

My maiden voyage to the BW was in mid to late June and the water was very high. Hog Creek was flowing strong and I had a time figuring out which branch to take wherever it splits. I thought that trip was in 2008. Maybe it was 2009.
Imagine watching a chrisstratton video of the same route in high or normal water levels.
