Entry Point 27 - Snowbank Lake

Snowbank Lake entry point allows overnight paddle or motor (25 HP max). This entry point is supported by Kawishiwi Ranger Station near the city of Ely, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 24 miles. Access is a boat landing or canoe launch at Snowbank Lake. Many trip options for paddlers. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

You have very colorful writing style. I enjoyed the report. We went in 4 days after you did, so possibly crossed paths. I think we may have gotten turned around the same place you did. See our Ensign to Thomas report. We were planning on going to Sagus to escape some of the crowding, but our site on Thomas ended up feeling out of the way enough. I hope you let us know how the rest of the trip went, and that everyone enjoyed it enough to go back often.


I think the feeling of freedom and rediscovering ancient rhythms of living are a big part of the experience that draws many of us back. The ability to reconnect with the natural world is priceless.
