Wow! what an adventure and challenge, both before and during the actual paddle, I was touched by your comments about your son as a partner on this trip. Congratulations to both of you!

Way to go you two.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

Congratulations! It sounds like it was worth the wait. I wish I would have known your itinerary, I was in Grand Marais on the day you guys finished. I would have made the jaunt up to Grand Portage and joined the welcome party at the finish line.

Scott and Grant, Thanks for posting your adventure story. I will be watching the You Tube videos too!

17 paddlers will be doing the Bear Brigade's Annual Fall Kruger-Waddell Challenges this September. Starting on September 3 at Sha Sha Resort and going all the way to Grand Portage. The organized Minnesota Border Route Challenges started in 2015 as a tribute to Verlen Kruger and Clint Waddell who did this route in 1968 in 80 hours and 40 minutes. Our paddlers have 8 days to complete the route and meet in Grand Portage for a celebrations dinner and catch the shuttle back to Ely. This is the 7th organized event. (2021 was a "burn out") And yes, this year the closing of the Gold Portage and the Kettle Falls decontamination stations will certainly add to the "challenge".

Well done and we’ll written. Thanks for sharing, I can’t wait to watch the videos. It’s cool how you paddled in Voyageurs to meet the miles requirement in lieu of the portage being closed. I did the challenge a few years back and it was an experience I’ll never forget. Getting to that first site on Little Vermillion after a long day of camping was so rewarding. I remember just rolling out of the canoe onto the ground as I was so exhausted.

Great Job!

Tony

Thanks Tony! We watched YOUR videos leading up to this trip...spent hours on the rowing machine going over your footage. That first campsite sure is terrible, but a welcome site/sight!
