I like your idea of the 'base camp philosophy'....that works for me as well. Thanks for sharing your report....and Horse River pic was beautiful, wish you had more pics.

I do have a few others, but that trip took place prior to my conversion to digital photography, so I will add them in later after I've scanned them in.

Thanks for your feedback

Great report! Thanks for sharing.

I've invited my brother on a trip this year but I'm not sure if he will bite. His job has him busy flying all over the country. It has been 5 years since our last trip together up North. Regardless of his schedule, I know I will be in the BWCA this year. I'm actually planning two trips...one in May and another in September.

Thanks again,

C

Nice report. I really enjoyed the story of how the wilderness allows us to re-acquaint with others and our inner selves. Well written.

Enjoyed the report. You and your brother seem to complement each other. Checks and balances. Wondering if Brian has his own tent now? Something tells me he'd be into one of these.

Combine it with the superfly tarp. Anyway, hope you have many more trips with family and kids. And don't forget the wife! :)

Yes, after his initial experiment, he went the tent route, and I replaced my leaking tent. The "Full Moon Over Fourtown" trip report (click on the paper icon under my name) is about the trip we took after this one.

Thanks for the hammock link, I've actually been thinking of going with a hammock for an upcoming single portage, loop trip. Do you have one of those?

Yeah, I broke down and ordered the Warbonnet Blackbird and the Superfly. I should have it in a couple of weeks. You can get a lot of info at Hammock Forums.

They also have sub-sections for different manufacturers. I'll have to read your follow up trip on Fourtown.

I would love to have seen a photo of your brothers' shelter from that first night. Sounds like a lot of fun.

I agree getting a pic of your brother snoring under the shelter would have been priceless. Lucky for him that the skeeters didn't eat him alive!
