Nice report! The sunken wooden structure is actually a log dock that the Forest Service or the CCC installed at many portage landings many years ago. I've seen a lot of them in years past. One that I remember is at the Mora end of the portage to Little Saganaga. It was there in the 1990's and early 2000's.

Great report. I was the solo guy you passed on the portage out of Heritage Creek. After Loon I didn’t see anyone for 12 days.

Thanks Tom. I suspected the ladder like structure was dock related but I wasn’t sure about the individual long logs with notches. The Ruby side of that Portage was really inviting, it was probably just wishful thinking that a cabin had once stood there.

Twelve more days without seeing anyone, that’s saying something. Where did you all go? I imagine the rainstorm was an experience.

Thanks for the compliment. I checked out some of your trip reports. They were also well done. You certainly looked like you were in your element the day we saw you and I can see by your reports you’ve covered a lot of ground and covered it thoroughly.

I pretty much followed your route. I was supposed to exit Moose River but I got reports of groups having difficulty getting out so I rerouted back to LIS. I spent the rain day pretty much reading in my tent unaware of washouts and entry point closures. I spent a few days on Oyster and began to wonder why I wasn't seeing anyone. I'll try to get a trip report together this week.

Awesome report, sounds like you had a really excellent time! It's been such a rainy and buggy year that I'm glad you didn't come all the way from Alaska just to get soggy. I did most of that route in October and got rained on half the time but couldn't deny the beauty of it all. I'd love to do it again. Wish we could've stayed at that campsite on Finger, it really is a beaut! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the report! Sounds like a great time and you avoided the rain storm.
I did that route a few years back and have wanted to do it again.
It's not the easiest trek up and around those northern lakes and there are a couple long portages on the way back to LIS but it's worth it. I stayed at the same site on Finger Lake and it was one of my favorites.
We are headed back to LIS this year on August 18th and I am undecided as of yet which route we will take. Our last camp was on Lynx and it was a beauty. From there we went straight back to the entry point. We did not explore any of the lakes in between.
