Homer Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Tofte Ranger Station near the city of Tofte, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 33 miles. Access is a boat landing at Homer Lake. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

I really enjoyed reading your report of your first trip. Brought back memories of a “first trip” for us, too, but in a different way: our first trip off the Gunflint in 1992 (our long trip) was in this area. It was about halfway through our forty-two year history of canoe-tripping.


Always fun to hear how others started out. And nice to know that some of you are still buddies to this day. Thanks for sharing. Made me smile, but also made me wish there were a photo or two.

Glad you enjoyed it...looking back, we were highly inexperienced and a bunch of clowns. I mean were still a bunch of clowns, but we do make slightly better choices today. No midnight runs to the EP, no roadie's, no drifting the corners, just a general taming of the stupidity.
