Entry Point 62 - Clearwater Lake

Clearwater Lake entry point allows overnight paddle or motor (10 HP max). This entry point is supported by Gunflint Ranger Station near the city of Grand Marais, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 33 miles. Motors allowed on Clearwater Lake only. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Nice report....it's one of the BWCA's bigest lessons, rolling with the punches. It's good when you can relax and accept what's been offered that day.

I think you saw ranger rick; he visited us on our trip also. He almost lost his canoe, he tied it up, went back to check the latrine and when he returned his canoe was gone... the wind worked his knot loose and pushed his canoe about 10 yards down shore. Thankfully we were able to recover it and all his gear was ok.

gbusk, I wanted to take the 143 rod n-s portage from Caribou to Clearwater then paddle to the Mountain Lake portage which intersects the Border Route Trail. There's a lookout off the trail that oversees Mountain Lake towards Canada. My original plan was to base camp on Caribou with one day on that trail/paddling around Clearwater.
