I couldn't help but feel a connection to my trip last June. No motorboats to spoil the wilderness adventure but it was way overcrowded and tent sites were at a premium. It's too bad things like that have to happen to "spoil" a trip. One thing I do know is I've never had a bad trip to the BWCA and I'm hoping both of us have better experiences the next time we visit.

Yeah, motorboats aren't something I would want to be around in the BWCA. If I wanted all that jazz I would just make a weekend trip to a local lake. Maybe it's me but I don't find motorboats having much respect for canoes. Last year, I had one come so close to my canoe that I could have touched it with my fishing pole. I wasn't happy but What could I do. I didn't have a stick of dynamite so I paddled on and continued to enjoy my day.

When planning for a BWCA trip my choice of EP, date of entry, route, and whatnot all tailor toward what I would like to experience.

Best wishes on your future trips.

We had the same experience on Loon Lake. We had a 5* campsite, and and in front of the site was a group fishing out of a motorboat. They had a cooler full of beer and were very noisy. We left earlier than planned and went back to paddle only lakes. It's too bad, Loon Lake is beautiful.

Yep -
One of the reasons I only do paddle only lakes and even at theat - try to get as deep as I can into the woods.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Sucks when people act like fools, sucks even more when the authorities let it happen.....

Who I am precedes what I do, not the other way around.

Thanks for sharing, as I read couldn't help but think of those bass and redfish tournaments on ESPN and how intense it get's with all the boats taking off on the shotgun start in the morning and where fishing and being outdoors for them looks like a job.
Sounds like you learned something and had a fun inspite of it all.
