Entry Point 34 - Island River

Island River entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Tofte Ranger Station near the city of Grand Marais, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 19 miles. Two small portages leading to Isabella River. No portages on Island River.

A plane ride sounds like a fantastic way to get the picture of what has happened in that area. One of my favorite trips started on Isabella, I believe at the campsite you used, and then traveled the river to Quadga Lake and back. I am itching to see the area again after the fire but think I will wait a few years for things to green up. Thanks for sharing your report.

Thanks, Greybeard. That burned out landscape is something that is going to take some getting used to for me.
