Entry Point 26 - Wood Lake

Wood Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Kawishiwi Ranger Station near the city of Ely, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 13 miles. Access to Wood Lake is a 180-rod portage. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Thanks for the report and pictures. It sounds like a pretty nice loop besides the fire damage.

Nice report! We did this loop in reverse one week in September 2011 and enjoyed it. Gave us a real boost of confidence in our paddling/portage and camping skills. In fact, it convinced us we could handle the loop from Moose to Lake One which we did in September of 2012!

Your trip brought back some memories. In 2007 my son and I were going to do the same loop. We made it as far as Thomas and due to some last minute day trip changes we chose to go back the way we came. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the trip report. We did the same trip years ago. I remember getting turned around trying to find the portage on Ima. Seemed like we paddles past it 4 or 5 times before we finally saw it. Brings back memories.
