Sounds like a successful trip. Did you cook any of the fish? My daughter has been bugging me for years about going winter camping in the BW. I keep reminding her she doesn't like the cold! She still wants to go. I've snow camped out here but never used a stove for heat. Thanks for the report.

Yes, I ate 1 fish and it was great tasting. Thanks for asking!

Nice trip report. Glad you learned that you need to cut weight on a short trip. Having someone along to share the burden of the load would have helped too.

What tent did you purchase?

Experience is certainly the best teacher. Glad to hear you were able to enjoy the trip despite some difficulties. Going forward, this experience should make the next adventure that much easier & enjoyable.

Thanks for taking the time to share your story & photos.

Don't need to tell me where you caught your pike, but what did you catch them on? I can tell you were using a tip up, just wondering if you used live or frozen? Thanks for the trip report and pictures. Nice Job!

I was so blessed on the tent purchase it was on eBay unused $150 delivered. The draw back is it weighs 46 lbs. The name of the tent is; Odyssey.

I used dead frozen fish about a foot off the bottom. Ciscos and smelts. I liked the smelts better. I caught a 35" 10 pounder on 1 smelt.

Nice report...you just missed the cold temps. I exited Wood Lake the day you went in.

I delayed my entry by 3 hours that morning because Ely had -33 at the start if the day. How long we're you at Wind Lake and have you done a trip report?

Thanks for the report! So far my only winter "camping" is at the cabin outside Ely. Not quite the same. But I know what you mean about the quiet. I was just out on the lake and there was not a sound (except the ice rumbling every once in a while). I can imagine how hard it was to pull that load. It's good that you were not trying it this past week, the new snow is deep and very heavy, hard enough to walk or ski through if you are breaking trail, even without a load.
