Entry Point 16 - Moose/Portage River (North of Echo Trail)

Moose/Portage River (north) entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by La Croix Ranger Station near the city of Ely, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 27 miles. Access is a 160-rod portage heading North from the Echo Trail.

Thanks for the report. LIS #14 is one of my favorite entry points.


I can imagine how you must have felt after the canoe incident. Your outfitter certainly handled it in a professional and customer friendly manner.

If you base camped on Loon Lake I most likely passed your camp on Friday. It seems like you got a bad draw with the weather. I remember it being mostly grey and windy with rainy spells till Monday.


Hey, with weather you just never know right? I've been fortunate the last four years but in 2007 it rained almost every day for a week.
