Entry Point 1 - Trout Lake

Trout Lake entry point allows overnight paddle or motor (25 HP max). This entry point is supported by La Croix Ranger Station near the city of Cook, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 30 miles. Access from LakeVermilion via 60-rod canoe portage or 180-rod portage that allows the use of portage wheels. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Thanks for the report - you have my sympathy with the weather. That's one thing I don't like about the shorter trips I've taken - too much chance of having bad weather the whole trip or most of it.

Hey, you win some and you lose some. If we go up (or down) there enough, we'll all experience a trip like that. For me it was a week in Sept. 2007.

It's cool that your friend got the nice northern and you had the walleye. At least you didn't get skunked too. You took some nice shots that really showed how brutal it was. Thanks for the report.

You lasted longer than we did in that weather. I love that site on Shell and have spent many nights there, none as rainy as yours though. Next trip can't be as bad,right? Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us.

That was the first campite in the BW I ever stayed on. It created the magic of the area that has stuck with me ever since. Great to see it again after so long. Sounds like you took the weather as well as could be expected-but a bummer to get soaked the entire trip.
