Thanks for sharing

Never lost. All portages and roads go somewhere or they would not be there.

Thanks for the info. We are leaving for that area tomorrow. Looks like it is going to be a cool one in the overnights. Hopfully the bugs are still down and the portages have dried up... Thanks again for the great report!

Great report J, thanks for the kudos on the grub, you know I love my food.. If anyone who reads this knows who is in the canoe behind the moose in the water, I would love to hear their story of the moose encounter and see their pix. Even though it was 35 degrees and raining the morning we put in on Brule, it was a great trip..(aren't they all?)

I can explain this to you, but I cant understand it for you.....

I love your barrel pack from CCS. Can you tell us more about it? I want one.

I especially enjoyed reading about what gear and grub worked well.

I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

I have to give credit on the food to the FOOD FORUM... We took a lot of the recipes straight off this site and they proved to be tasty.
Next year we have already trialed "Shepherds pie... it is great!
Thanks for stopping by.

The CCS...Great place to get gear. Roger found that our current barrel harness just wasn't meeting our needs. We decided to go to a medium size food barrel as well this year.

In the past we have come across some small hiccups, such as the 0-ring going bad on a fuel bottle (which we had packed in our personal gear pack for convenience)... This prompted conversations of how we personally would like to handle gear in the future. Roger decided it would be best if we modified our barrel harness to include spaces for the fuel to be externally carried, as well as a few spaces to mount incidentals (the odd shaped pans, etc). He contacted CCS with his request. The response time and custom order was reasonably priced and quick to turn around. It surpassed our expectations. You can shop CCS and find this gear now for public purchase and I think (we think) you will find it worth the spend.

Each year we head up, we find better and more efficient ways...
For Example: Using two mini tree huggers..One high and one low on the tree to hang our gravity fed water filters works great. No need to filter from gray into BLUE bags, just hang your drominary bag on the lower tree hugger and filter your clean water directly in...

Thanks for the info on the barrel pack J. I was the Double E poster last night since I wasn't logged into forum. I have a couple of CCS packs already and your barrel pack looked awesome. I have already sent a request to Dan for more information on it.

We are switching to a gravity this year, so I am going to take your advice on that as well.
Thx!

The foundation you found on Gaskin is probably the old foundation for a cabin. There's a website that mentions that Gaskin and Winchell once had cabins on them... I'm going to ask the website creator for more details. Here's the site: http://www.boundarycountry.com/canoe-routes.html

I checked and the Gaskin site belonged to the rich (and very convincing to investors) prospector Frank Nickels Johnson who was there in the 1890s. He was looking for anything valuable, and thankfully for us he didn't! The info is in Willis Raff's "Pioneers in the Wilderness." The Winchell cabin site was a fishing outpost owned by the Brandt's, the people who started Nor'Wester Outfitters on Poplar.
