Entry Point 1 - Trout Lake

Trout Lake entry point allows overnight paddle or motor (25 HP max). This entry point is supported by La Croix Ranger Station near the city of Cook, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 30 miles. Access from LakeVermilion via 60-rod canoe portage or 180-rod portage that allows the use of portage wheels. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Yeah, it was not the greatest idea we have ever come up with. Not the worst either. I would not have done it if it wouldn't have been on the way out, or if the weather was worse, or if the rapids were worse, but we made it and it was so exhilarating I'll never forget it. No regrets

Thanks for sharing your trip. Any tips or further comments on camping in a burn area? I keep knocking on wood that we haven't had a canoe tip on our trips - yet! Looks like you enjoyed good fishing.

The burn area has its pros and cons. The major con is that it lacks the beauty of greenery, but on the plus side there is more visibility to spot campsites and view sunsets and the night sky. Also, there are less bugs in the burn area, however, less wildlife as well.
