Entry Point 1 - Trout Lake

Trout Lake entry point allows overnight paddle or motor (25 HP max). This entry point is supported by La Croix Ranger Station near the city of Cook, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 30 miles. Access from LakeVermilion via 60-rod canoe portage or 180-rod portage that allows the use of portage wheels. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Update with some more pictures and campsite numbers and our ratings of those sites. (we were picky and lucky and ended up with some good ones)


Night 1 - Agnes site #1803. 5 stars


Nights 2 & 3 - Iron #1841 4 stars


Nights 4 & 5 - LLC Tiger Bay #178 4 stars


Night 6 - Nina Moose #1786 4 stars

Nice report. The weather up there can be really interesting at times, but it sure can change in a hurry, which is why you have to pack for almost anything. Sounds like you did well on the fish, nice clear pictures mine are usually considerably less clear and usually have a finger edge in some [I call that personalizing them] FRED

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fourtune to remember the ones do, and the eyesight to tell the differance.

Yes, fishing went pretty well. Sounds like it slowed down some after we left.


Northerns were going crazy in a foggy/still morning where the portage river flows into Nina Moose.


Also, we heard many grouse doing their thumping (lack of a better word) and that was pretty cool. None of us had heard that in person yet.
