I enjoyed the read. Your new canoe looks like a real beauty. And I am envious you have two Duluth packs!

Thanks, I really enjoyed your report. I know you were looking forward to it with great anticipation and I can tell you weren't disappointed. You saw a lot of country, much of which I've seen and a lot I haven't too. I hope you get to do another one like that soon.

Great report! Great detail and I awesome photos. I can't wait to do a solo some day, mostly tandems for now. Gorgeous boat, I have a Northwind 17 (Northstar is just down the road from me) myself and it's the best canoe I've ever owned. Don't know if I'll every buy from anyone else. I've never been in at Kawishiwi, but after seeing you pics I feel like checking it out.

Thanks so much!

Gorgeous pictures and a well narratted report. The peaceful nature of the trip relaxed me just reading it. I also gained a new dehydrated meal idea. Hamburger, refried beans and mashed potatoes. I will remember to go heavy on the seasoning for the hamburger.

Thanks for posting the report.

Excellent report on a fantastic trip. Great photography as well.
Inspires me even more for my next trip. I would love to do a solo one day.
Thank you.

I enjoyed reading your report. A solo trip departing from Kawishiwi is on my list of upcoming trips I want to take.

Nicely played, and nicely written. I used to call my solo trips a lone wolf tour.

Always nice to read another solo account. Love the canoe, very sharp. It's what I will get but no more wood trim for me.

You didn't mention any wildlife except the turtle and a loon if I remember. Did you get to hear wolves? And you really seemed to have a nice stretch of weather for that time of year. Good choice of book too! Ever think of going beyond the BW? I see you're hooked pretty good on tripping again.

Thanks for the report and awesome pics too. The only thing missing was a shot of bacon, eggs, and pancakes for dinner. :)

Beautiful photos - fall is my favorite time up north. A chunk of that route is on my wish-list. Thank you for describing it well.

really enjoyed your trip, it was a pretty long route for your first solo but it's good to have a plan and then be able to adjust as needed. for some reason i wasn't able to see many of the photos, there was just a small black X in the upper left corner and my computer couldn't open them. from other comments, they sound gorgeous. Fall is my favorite time for tripping.
your comments about the paddle through Fishdance were exactly what i felt paddling through that area. i felt an odd sense of calm and wanted to stay longer because of it.
looking forward to hearing about your next trip, solo or with the family.

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm glad so many enjoyed my report.
Scramble, only one of the Duluth Packs is mine, I borrowed one from my dad. A Frost River Timber Cruiser is on my wish list though.
Steve, thanks for all the advice before the trip. It really set me up for success.
Anthony, I can't say enough good about my Northstar Magic. That boat is a dream to paddle! A Northwind 20 is next for a family canoe upgrade.
TomT, I did hear the wolves. When I was camped on Makwa, I heard them at dusk. No major animal sightings this trip, such as moose, only tracks near Pan Lake. I did see an otter and bald eagle and hear a Great Horned owl on Beaver, a piliated and a ruffed grouse on the Kawishiwi River, and a variety of ducks. I do plan on eventually tripping into the provincial parks. Algonquin, Wabakimi, and a fly-in to Woodland Caribou are on my bucket list.
Mocha, it was a long route, but I had plenty of alternate routes build in to shorten the trip if needed. Not sure why the pictures didn't work for you. They are in my photo album as well, if that works for you.

I really, really enjoyed that report. I've felt a lot of the same things up in canoe country. That sense of interconnectedness with my surroundings, and the disconnectedness from the noise that so often defines my life, is why I keep coming back.

Thanks for the report. I was in the same area (entered the day before you from EP37) and traveled a very similar route. What was truly funny about your report to me was the mention of otters. I was camped on Adams and noticed 2 "fish" splashing on the surface about 400 yds out. I thought maybe they were Muskies, although I didn't know there were muskies in the lake. They were flopping out there for 20 minutes and by the time I got my canoe ready to investigate they were gone.
