quote dentondoc: "If you are pretty efficient about loading and unloading your canoe, you might consider getting dropped at Brewer Rapids. From there, you only have a short hop around McAree Rapids before you are ready to head east in to the by that gets you to the "Goat Hill" portage and Wicksteed. It could save your roughly a mile and a half of paddling (~20-30 minutes).

Just a thought.

That's a good thought, thanks DD!

Hey all,
Heading to William the first week of September and I'm wondering if it's possible to make it from Black Robe to William in one day? It appears it would be about 20 miles, roughly. I estimate maybe 10 hrs. to get there? I imagine staying the first night on Darky isn't a bad idea...but if we could push it and take the back-door route through Cloverleaf, it would sure be nice to just BE THERE.

I'm also curious about opinions on whether to take the Darky River route or the "Gratton Death March" route. Our group has done both routes coming in or out of different lakes. It appears the distance and number of portages going either route from Black Robe to William are pretty similar to one another. Avoiding that killer portage wouldn't necessarily hurt my feelings.

Just thought I'd get your thoughts on this. Also, if anyone has knowledge to share taking the "backdoor" route from Darky to William (through Cloverleaf), I'd love specifics.

Thanks!
