I went from Tuck to Ranger Bay via Kett at the beginning of July. Portages had recently been cleared and where in good shape other than running with water due to a week of rain.

The first portage from Ranger Bay to Kett is exceptionally beautiful when it travels an open bedrock ridge. Many blueberries on the way!

Great route.

quote Margaret waechter: "Yes that helps a lot! came from Sarah to tuck last summer and agree tuck is beautiful! Do you know if can get from ranger bay to Tuck via McNaught? There's two port ages into McNaught but don't know if creek to unnamed lake and then tuck is passable?
Thanks mags "

That is not a route as far as I know. Sounds like the portages into McNaught are no picnic, and the creek up to Tuck does not appear passable judging from satellite photos.

I went from Ranger Bay to Tuck via Kett a few years ago. I love that area. It was peak season, and we didn't see anyone until we hit McIntyre. The two portages from Basswood to Kett have been discussed on this board recently. The first one is something like 280 rods but it really is pretty easy by Quetico standards. The portage from Kett to Tuck is not bad though IIRC it climbs a bit. Tuck is a beautiful lake!

We also took the cutoff portage from Big Merriam bay on Basswood over to the main part of the lake. That saves quite a bit of paddling and it is quite an easy portage.

Hope this helps.

Looking for portage details as planning trip with sister and two teenage boys and they want fishing and pictographs. Been from north bay basswood into kash via side lake several times and looking for change up. From ranger bay on basswood anyone know what it's like going into tuck lake via mcnaught or via kett lake... Then heading north to Brent Suzette's back to Brent , darky river and Argo.... Want this to be fun experience for them so they come back!
