When you reach the "Y" on the dirt road to Nym Lake, you want to bear LEFT to go to the CANOE LAUNCH area (the RIGHT track takes you down to a camping/general use area).

I must have just been looking at a map of the area with north at the top ... on this dirt road, you'll be driving generally south.

SORRY!!!!!

Appreciate the catch - having printed your post with the directions for my trip file, I'd have been cussing you (by name!) as I wandered around a strange lake looking for home! :-))

Thanks!

remember those camping fees are per person per night!

also, does everyone in this world own a smart phone except me??? i think i was asked 6 or 7 times today... "well, this app interfaces with your smart phone and... blah blah blah... "

would those apps work in Canada? i know my measly samsung trac phone did not work in canada (i could have paid for extra coverage for that and it would have allowed me to call within Canada and back to the US).

It's all pretty well marked these days. You can look at Google earth also.

We expect to be in Atikokan late Friday, and gone early Saturday. Being non-business hours, and not staying with an outfitter, I'm worried about getting directions from Atikokan to whatever lot at Nym we'll leave from.

Also, what's the drive to the Batchewaung entry like from there?"

You are correct. The camping fees are stated in CAD. $12 USD would be approximately correct.

After exiting south from Atikokan, take a left when you reach the T-intersection at Highway 11. You'll reach the turnoff (right) to Nym Lake in just a couple of miles. Then you travel what I'd estimate to be less than a mile on a well used dirt/gravel road to reach your Nym Lake launch point. Shortly after you get on this road, there will be a "Y". The left branch leads to a camping area, while the right branch will take you to the parking lot for the canoe launch area (where a short trail will lead you to a dock to assist your loading process).

While your EP lake is "Batch", your actual put-in lake is Nym. Nym lies outside the park, while Batch is inside the park to the south of Nym. You will see development on Nym (cabins and motor traffic) and is dotted with a number of islands, which means you need to keep yourself oriented (map and/or GPS) to navigate your way to the Batch portage. Assuming you are taking the main portage (rather than the Racer Portages), it is well developed, including steps that you descend toward Batch.

Both Nym and Batch are rather large lakes, so it is advisable to get an early start to beat the wind that often develops later in the date (generally from the west).

Have a great trip.

You mightcall the office and ask. Thay have been known to be very accomodating, might let you prepay with cc, best exchange rate usually.

Souris River factory is next door. If time allows, an hour or so tour is quite interesting. Call in advance and talk to Wayne.

Son and I enter September 23rd. Swear I saw somewhere the station would closed at that time, but no matter, reckon we're good either way.

They have a drop box with envelopes at the headquarters also if no one is in the office when you arrive.
Jackfish 09/07/2017 09:31AM
Yessir, that's the one. However, the Atikokan ranger station is the park headquarters so I highly doubt that you'll have to self-permit. I would think they would have staff there nearly year 'round. Give them a call to confirm. (807) 597-2735

If you haven't been there before, it's on the right side just as you come into town. Look for the sign. You can't miss it.

The interwebs didn't make it as obvious as I was hoping...???

Can someone please confirm for me that the facility at 108 Saturn Ave. in Atikokan is where I'll need to go to self-permit for a trip later this month.
