Thanks for the correction, Ho Ho. I have been there more than once, and in my head the location is different than on the map. Not the first time I've been wrong. :)

That will be a nice loop. I think Poacher Creek and Poacher Lake are very scenic. You will find the portages show much less use than others in the area, especially along the creek. The one thing to be careful about in the spring may be whether there was a lot of winter blow down in the area - the portages won't have been cleared yet, and that could be a problem on the long portage at the end of your trip. However, we did it a couple years ago right after ice out and before the park opened, and did not have a problem.

The second Poacher campsite (besides the one at the end of the long portage to/from Inlet Bay) that I know of and have stayed at is actually on the southeast side of the lake. It's 1BD in the Paddler's Campsite Database.

Enjoy!

On my way to Agnes this July, I went via Inlet Bay and Poacher into Sunday because of big winds out on Bailey Bay.

The portage into Poacher is long but easy. No major climbs, a few low spots, but otherwise it's not bad at all (thanks to those who cleaned up this portage...after the wind storm last summer, getting through here was a *nightmare*). There are two campsites that I know of on Poacher; one is right at the end of the portage (this is where I've stayed...nice sand beach) and the other is on the northeast side of the lake (it's easy to see the firepit from the water).

Re: the creek to Sunday: The water was very high this year, so things might be different when you go through, but there were a few carryovers and (I think) two portages. Nothing too bad, and kind of a nice way to go if you've already been through Bailey/North Portage a bunch of times. Otherwise, it's just paddling a small, winding creek, which I enjoy quite a bit.

Poacher and Sunday

This should be a link. Was years ago, but I remember camping up to the right after I came onto Poacher from Inlet Bay (I was solo: double portaged; enjoyed that longish portage). Saw otter on the creek going out of Poacher... and a bull moose somewhere else along there came out to look at me along the creek... it was getting on in September... Poacher and Sunday

I've seen threads on going to Poacher from Inlet Bay, etc. A search would probably do the trick for you. Very many years since I went through there in September, but I really enjoyed it. Came out via some small lakes above Basswood and ended up doing a night paddle down to Wind Bay (because of wind during the day), to come out via Wind Lake to Moose, the next day.

Am looking at a solo trip next spring, and am considering a short Burke/Sunday/Poacher loop. Anybody been to Poacher Lake in the past few years? How are the portages from Inlet Bay and Sunday Lake? Any campsite information on this loop you'd care to share?
