02/16/2018 10:30PM Carmike, I would love to hear more about your experience with trout in Lonely. I am considering making that lake my destination this summer, but the main reason I am on the fence is the reputed absence of trout. Some seemingly reliable sources have told me that there are absolutely no LT in Lonely, even though almost all the surrounding lakes have them. I'm not particular about size, but I would love to know how many you caught and what time of year it was. You can PM me or start a new thread; either way I'd love to hear from you. Handycamp |

02/07/2018 06:17PMMiami1: "Thwarted, we made it easily to Jesse in one day, so I don't think it is "unreasonable". Wind could slow your progress on Nym and Batch, but if you get an early start Jesse can easily be accomplished in one day. I'd tend to agree however you know your own pace and limits. I made it from Jesse back to Nym by late afternoon, but the water was like glass. Wind would have slowed me down considerably the last time I was out. There are certainly serviceable campsites at Mosquito point as well as on the island on Maria that might do in a pinch if you don't make Jesse on day one. So, there are options! |

02/07/2018 02:07PMThwarted: "dentondoc: "Thwarted: "I discovered that Nym to the end of Jesse is about 20 miles. " I used different software to measure the distance. Also, keep in mind that I plotted distance to the collection of islands at the eastern end of Jesse. Most of the better campsites are on the eastern end of the lake. Not to convolute your planning, but if you stay on the eastern end of Jesse, its a short jump over to the portage to Elizabeth ... giving you the option to do your loop backwards. (But if you go that way, be careful not to take the wrong "trail" to Elizabeth. Many years ago, there was an obvious trail in the notch where the portage lies, but after 50-75 yards it was clear that it was a moose trail.) dd |

02/07/2018 10:03AMdentondoc: "Thwarted: "I discovered that Nym to the end of Jesse is about 20 miles. " Very interesting. I used Paddle P. I just checked the numbers. From Nym to the end of Jesse is 17.5 miles and 7 hours total. I must have been looking at the end of Oriana after the Cedar Portage. Much better so that route is back in the mix. |

02/07/2018 07:48AMcarmike: "Yep, it has lake trout. Found that out trolling down the middle of nowhere with big plugs chasing sumo pike. I think that darker, slightly tannic stained water grows them bigger (or at least supports more numbers of decently sized fish) than do the ultra-clear waters like Argo. Just a hypothesis. At least I have more consistent luck in those waters, anyways. Just my .02. " Good to know. I didn't even fish it when I was through there in 2016. I guess I will have to revisit! Thanks for the info. |

" I don't know what your exact route is, but I re-plotted from the put-in at Nym to the middle of Jesse and I only get about 12.5 miles. I've paddled this solo before and easily made this leg on day 1, arriving in mid-afternoon (and I wasn't turning the water into foam get there). I do remember grabbing a snack on Batch near the narrows to Pickerel rather than stopping for lunch, but I'm not sure I wasn't on my mid-lake (Jesse) campsite between 2:00-3:00 ... even set up camp and got a bit of fishing in before dinner. Maybe you need to re-calculate the distance. dd |

02/03/2018 07:58AM Thank you for your thoughts. After further review, this route will be modified. I discovered that Nym to the end of Jesse is about 20 miles. I had hoped to be there the first day but that is unrealistic. I have a bad habit of looking at a map and under estimating time and energy requirements. I do think we will incorporate Lonely and the adjacent lakes in some way. |

02/02/2018 04:11PM Since you'll be semi-nearby, if you haven't been there yet, make your way to Chatterton Falls. As I said when we were there, it's worth the price of admission. :) Chatterton Falls, for your viewing pleasure |

02/02/2018 01:22PM Planning an eight day trip that includes 4 veterans and two newbies. Thinking of beginning and ending at Nym. Going out to Sturgeon via Oriana, Jean and back via Lonely, Walter. Need time for some fishing, layover. |
