Little Isabella trip report
marsonite 09/05/2018 07:50AM
I've done that as a day trip a few times...we left our canoe at the Little Isabella, drove to the Snake, and walked back to our canoe. I can't remember exactly how long it takes, maybe something like 8 hours or so.

I don't think it matters that much which way you go. I remember there is a little rapids on the Isabella that you can paddle downstream, but not would be tough going up. Also a few beaver dam liftovers on the Little Isabella that are always easier going down.

As stated, the portage to the Snake is easy, just long.

It probably makes the most sense to start at the Snake River. The first part of the portage is down hill and follows an old logging road. It's not particularly difficult, just long. Going from the Snake River entry to the Little Isabella entry can be done in one day-no problem. If you single portage you can get to Bald Eagle in a little over 2 hours. If you enter Little Isabella and head to Qaudga for a night, that too takes about 2 hours.

I see this guy has e-mail available. Maybe he can answer some of your questions.

Looking for some info on the Snake and Little Isabella river loop off the Tomahawk Road. Wondering if there is an advantage to starting either entry first and would also like to know how the portage is into the Snake, other than being long! :o) Two people looking at an early October paddle. What amount of time will it take to do this? Thanks!
