I’ve seen a few boats in loon as well. They’ve been pretty respectful... no wakeboards. But if they had their way they’d have kicked me out of their primo motor boat campsite.

Maxk: "Hi Everyone-

We are planning a trip with our kids in mid-Aug. We'd like to go in Little Indian Souix and up towards Loon Lake to La La Croix. I noticed that Loon is marked on the map as having motorized traffic. Has anyone been up that way during summer recently? Any sense how much motorized traffic we should expect to see? (Our preference would be to see little or none...)

Thanks in advance for any info you can offer,

Max"

Just got back from passing through that route. We went in on a Friday and crossed Loon into Little Loon in the afternoon. Three or four motorboats created a bit of wake. Looked like two of them were setting up camp on Loon for the weekend. Once we got into Little Loon, things quieted right down. Camped at the north site of Little Loon on the way back out (lovely spot). Passed through Loon on a Friday morning and did g see any motorized traffic.

I’ve been on Little Loon once before and had a motorboat sneak through the channel to do some fishing.

We saw maybe one or two boats headed to or from the Beatty portage but no real big deal. 5 or 6 days later we stayed on Loon on our way back out for a night. Had boats fishing all around our campsite that evening and had taken a few sites. even got a nice wake up call from a speed boat pulling a wakeboarder the next morning around 7am.

If it's up to me, I'll pass thru again no problem but not staying if I can help it. Little Loon is supposed to be no motors, so I'd start there if you need a place."

There’s got to be better places to Wakeboard than a lake in the BWCA, even if motors are allowed. Especially at 7:00 am.

I generally agree. From the mechanical portage up to LLC I have seen several when paddling through there near or on a weekend. You do get some parties on CA shore opposite Snow Bay.

Agree with Portagekeeper. I have been thru there a lot also. Sometimes I see one or two in a day. Sometimes none.

I've probably been across there about a dozen times and 'little or no' traffic is what my experience has been. You're only in a motorized zone for a couple hours so it really shouldn't affect you either way.
