Great report. We did the same loop at the same time, but it took us 13 days. You must have passed us when we spent our two days on Omega. Yes, we less than fondly recall the bog between Ross and Cave. We both had our 'sinking' experience. But it is a beautiful area, and we did see 5 moose when on Rush - one a nice sized bull. I agree about the sites on Rush; those on Banadad are nicer.

Northwoodsman: "Nice report, it's one of my favorite areas. We went from Cross Bay EP to Poplar back in mid-may. I love those long, narrow lakes. We went right after the snowfall and were the first ones through most of the route. I have never seen so many moose tracks or droppings in my life, but no moose. The portage commonly referred to as "The Wall" is not fun west to east. As we were heading across the lake toward it I got very ill for no apparent reason. I had all I could do to stand up. I managed to carry two paddles across and it took me about an hour. My brother quad-portaged it with all of our gear. We stopped on Omega and stayed there. I had my finger on the SOS button of my InReach for about 2 hours before I fell asleep late afternoon. I woke up the next day and felt fine, but it was a close call.

I can't wait to go back, I think that's my next trip also."

Did this same trip last week solo. Yup heading up the wall was a bit of a challenge. I also learned not to underestimate a 20r portage. The one going into Muskeg was interesting. Large rock filled stream up to a Beaver dam. Stayed on Omega as well. Very nice even when the loud talker came by with his group of 2 aluminum canoes with way too short kayak paddles came by. A very rhythmic boom boom boom

I enjoyed your report. Thanks. One of my favorite parts of the BWCA.

We were at Poplar Lake from August 11-18, so some of the time that you were in the area. The weather was wonderful for all of our cabin week, with rain only coming once in the night.

I, too, keep hoping to see the Northern Lights. Still haven't. :-( I turned 74 in July, so I don't know how many more times I can hope to see them, and am thinking we need to be up there later in the year again sometime.

Thanks for the report, Tom. I enjoyed hearing about it and the LI to Skipper part. I went the other way from LI to Omega and going up the wall was tough, but I thought I'd rather not go down even if it was dry. My legs are short ;). I haven't found but a site or two I couldn't or wouldn't stay at either.
