Thanks, WhiteWolf. Much-appreciated. Yeah, I wasn't clear. Like your history, we're hoofing it down from Fort Charlotte.

Thats a rough stretch, email BeaV on here- he did it in the past (all the way to Superior) . I've done Fowl entry of the Pigeon to the start of the GP (Fort Charlotte) 4 times- bad news in low water. ( I would say, don't do it at night) But certainly doable dragging / walking the English Rapids. Past Fort Charlotte , downsteam- things take on a new level of "adventure"-- expect some cliff hopping in and rapids not the usual - things get dicey quick from what BeaV told me past Ft Charlotte. There is a reason for a 9 mile portage. That's a rough drop in elevation on the Pigeon from Ft Charlotte on down to Superior with no marked portages- be prepared.

Looks like it's episode 66. Can listen on their site or anywhere you get podcasts.

Listen to the Tumblehome podcast episode on the Grand Portage, they do that trip in 2 days and have a ton of audio and video and review of the area.

My buddy Alan and I did this in 2013 to celebrate our 70th birthdays. I don't know what the flow rate was, but we had to get out and wade over the shallows about 10 or 12 times. There are no portages after Fowl Portage and before Partridge Falls. The banks were so thick with alders that no landing was possible to empty the water which accumulated from all the climbing in and out until we came across a flat beaver lodge. Partridge Falls is about a mile above the Grand Portage takeout. There is no warning except the mild roar of the water over the falls. The Cascades are below the Grand Portage takeout, so you won't encounter them. Enjoy the trip. Be sure to sign in to the Grand Portage log book at the main trading post building.

Hi. Looking for any intel about Pigeon River down to Lake Superior (have been checking water conditions at Middle Falls on USGS; current just under 600 ). We'll be putting in at Fowl Portage, and have never paddled the Pigeon River/done the Grand Portage. Wondering about other portages/conditions ... markers about places like Cascade Falls. Thanks for any information!
