We always use the one just north of those docks. I think we paid $20 a week this past season. I think it's nice place to put in. There are a couple vault toilets, for last second needs. Plenty of parking. Lots of space to put in, so we're not in the way.

I heard he was an importer/exporter. Chips, diapers, long matches, etc.

The fee is the same; $5/day unless it goes up this year.

The wide dirt ramp in your photo is the other county landing.

Thanks both for the replies. I’m probably being unclear.

The “guide’s launch” is the one I used last year and found to be busier than I’d like. Don’t mind the fee but wish I had known to bring some cash, had to go back for that. By the time I got back there were two boats in line and one of them took nearly 15 minutes to get wet. Plus a constant stream of towboats outta that spot as well. So just thinking about other options for next year.

The one I am talking about is on 11. Google maps calls it Sag Lake Trail but a closer zoom shows 11 as well. So I’m assuming this is the other public access you’re both referring to? Does my aerial photo show the correct spot? I’m not talking about the marked “sag cabins dock” which I know is owned by seagull and used by their cabin guests. I’m talking about the big wide dirt ramp directly north of there. This also seems to be the spot where the EP is marked on the map on this site. I’m just looking to confirm the location and the fee so I can be prepared.

I’ll pass on the gull lake option but good to know that’s there in a pinch.

You have 3 options for public launches. As Mocha said, the county landing on the Chik Wauk museum road is the preferred landing of the fishing guides. It's a nice landing to use if you have your crap together for a quick launch. I tend to take a little more time getting organized so I don't use that one out of respect for the guys trying to make a living and their guests that our paying big $$.

The second county landing on 83/11 is usually the one that I use. I'm not sure how you felt it was busy last year. Every time I was there the parking lot was much emptier than usual. Probably because folks couldn't go to Canada.

If you don't want to pay for parking you can launch your boat on Gull Lake at the very end of the Gunflint Trail. That parking lot is federal land so there is no county fee. You save a few bucks but there are some hittable rocks that way which could make it more expensive.

That looks like a private dock, perhaps for rentals owned by seagull outfitters or Vco or private peoples.

I’ve only known of the public access off old city rd 11 which is now 83, I think, and the one off city 81, known as the guides landing since most fishing guides launch there

I’m curious about the wide dirt/gravel boat ramp that’s accessed from Sag Lake Trail, just the other side of the trail from voyageur canoe outfitters. On the aerial photo attached it’s just north of the green marker for “sag cabins dock.”

I’m wondering if the access fee is the same as the other ramp or if there’s anything else I should consider. The southern ramp is certainly fine, but it was a little busy last summer and the fee was unexpected. If I can put in farther north and past the shallow no wake, that would be ideal.
