TuscaroraBorealis: "WhiteWolf: "TuscaroraBorealis: "I have caught lakers right from camp in May. The 2nd & 3rd site east down the lake from the Clearwater portage are both well situated for shore fishing - if you can get one of them. "
I have stayed at this site above several times late in the year on the Kruger/Voyageur Challenge. I cannot say one thing on the fishing, but the severe cold blowing into these sites (and I'am hardy cold) even with water temps still in the upper 50's - low 60's-- was intense. Be prepared to hunker down is all. Enjoy your trip/ "

I can verify that it is a site that doesn't offer much in the way of shelter from the elements. :)"

Stayed here doing the Canadian border loop night one in Late may. Coldest night I think I have spent in the BWCA(and I have been in during Nov)Wind rips through this site and adds a huge chill. No real place to escape it. We tried shore fishing, but with the wind it was not productive. Tail wind next day lets us speed on to Moose, but was a little hairy at times.

I've been there for opener once. But you may see me there this year too. Who knows. (I'm entering at East Bearskin.) Throw spoons in the shallows. I did well fishing from shore too. Full trout dinners every night. Not sure about walleye though. Why eat walleye when you can eat trout?!!

But we still had a foot of snow that year in the shaded areas of the woods. Had to shovel it away to pitch my tent! I took the portage from Clearwater. I slid down that hill on my butt and tried to keep my canoe from getting away from me. So much fun!

Used to make an annual Memorial Day trip with my father and my uncle a long time ago, but I’ll leave it to others with more recent fishing experience.

This may “amuse” you. My father and uncle were camped on Mountain back when motors were allowed. One evening they were surprised to hear one out on the lake. As they listened more closely, they realized it was a cloud of mosquitoes outside their tent.

Anyone have tips on fishing the American side of Mountain Lake just after opener? Never been there myself, but decided to give it a try as we are locked out of the Quetico. Looking for lakers mainly, but will fish walleyes during the trip at some point as well. Thanks in advance for any useful tips.
