I’m curious what the folks at Sawtooth said to keep you out of the Perent River?

I was planning on a full day from Perent to Isabella with taking a campsite at Boga or Isabella. My dad thought we could do Isabella to Perent in a few hours on our put in day at Hog creek. He wanted two of us to go in through Isabella instead of doubling back to Hog creek. This thread was more or less a confirmation that my dads idea wasn’t too great.

Also regarding campsites, note that at least the first two of three campsites along the Perent River, heading west (before Boga Lake) are closed/burned up. I don't recall even seeing the third, which is also in the burn area, so it could be unusable too. Assume the first usable campsites are the two on Boga Lake, just before Isabella.

That last site on Perent before heading west into the river is very small. I’d give it a 2 star at most.

I paddled the Perent River from Perent Lake to Isabella last fall as part of a large loop from Hog Creek back around to Kawishiwi Lake (via Bald Eagle, Numbered Lakes, Insula, Alice, etc). It's a full, slow, hard day of paddling and portaging. Lots of portages, dams, and some difficult paddling/slogging through low and grass choked spots. It's lightly traveled and much of it was affected by the Pagami Creek fire, so some portages are tricky to spot. If you tack on Hog Creek in the same day, you'll be looking at a very long day (I paddled into Perent Lake the night before to have a fresher start into the river the next morning). It's a lot of work, but it's secluded and very beautiful. Saw a moose cow and calf along the way.

I’ll make sure to post an update when I return! There’s a decent chance I’ll write it as a journal-especially if we end up catching a decent amount of fish.

Hope you let us know when you return from your trip. I have often wondered about that since it has its share of turns and short portages. I remember reading a trip report of someone who stated it was the darkest tent site (midway?) she ever chose and battled against battalions of skeeters. That report was posted many years ago and I don't think it's in the current trip reports pages. I could be wrong, of course.
re: entry of Perent River at Perent Lake landing traveling westward to Isabella Lake.

We did it in August of 2019. Made it from the entry point to the lake opening in about 2.5 hours. Only one real portage, right near the entry point, but had a couple of beaver dam pull overs later on. lots of twists and turns, but nothing that a Bell Northwinds 18 couldn't handle.

EDIT: This only refers to the EP to PERENT lake travel time.

Hi,
I’ll be up with a crew of 4 from 6/14-6/19 from Hog Creek- Isabella Lake. I’ve been to Isabella several times and loved it. However, I’ve never paddled the Perent river. How long does it take to paddle the river? I saw there a quite a few short portages along the route.
