What's to support? Like most strikes they shroud their grievances in a lot sophistry using shop-worn phrases like "fairness" and "better working conditions" blah blah blah. It is everywhere and always about money. These slackers have been collecting a reliable government paycheque on a significantly reduced workload since the border closed (not to mention generous government pensions that are not at risk). Now that it is about to open they are going to kick not only you in the teeth, but the entire starving Canadian tourist industry that has been eating Kraft Dinner for the same year and a half. "

Once again your bias shreds any semblance of coherence and frankly you don't know what you're talking about.

Support or not support, you have to admit it was very well played on the Union's part. I bet they were waiting this entire time to have this strike right before the border re-opened. (and it worked)

Edit to add:
Thanks for the addition to my vocabulary...

I believe there is now a requirement to declare food. I am expecting they will look up each item/ingredient in their Automated Import Reference System to determine if they are eligible for import. For those of us who dehydrate our own food, that could be a thing.

I am getting the feeling that crossing border is going to be a lot of hassle until this is settled. I totally understand and support the reason for the strike action, but I have little patience for people intentionally making life difficult. I am way to likely to lose my cool and that would just get me in trouble. So I will stay out of their way until its settled.

That should throw a wrench into some plans.

It doesn't look good. The Border Services will begin work-to-rule action on August 6. The PSAC Union asks its members to Ask every question in your manual at ports of entry ...

In case you didn't realize, it's a free registration.

I can't read the article without registering but I'm doubtful that it would affect your ability to cross. Many of the border guards are deemed essential as someone has to be there to allow essential cross border travel. Could it cause longer wait times? Most certainly, in fact I would plan for it regardless. The first few weeks could be a mess.

No idea how this affects crossings only by water at remote locations, but you land travelers will want to pay attention:

“ Just as many U.S. residents were celebrating their ability to travel to Canada starting Aug. 9, a strike by Canadian border officers threatens to effectively shut down the border.

“Strike votes were held earlier in July. The unions for more than 8,500 Canada Border Services Agency officers announced Tuesday that an overwhelming majority of their members voted to strike as soon as Aug. 6.

“While a number of border officers would be deemed essential workers and required to stay on the job, a strike would almost certainly cause delays for those traveling by air and land.

“Canadian officials announced July 19 that fully vaccinated U.S. residents could enter the country if they test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of entry and follow other procedures.

“The border employees — members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Customs and Immigration Union — have been without a contract for over three years. They are seeking better protections against a “toxic workplace culture at CBSA” and greater pay parity with other law enforcement agencies across Canada. The union declared an impasse and applied for a Public Interest Commission ruling after Canada Border Services Agency and Canada Treasury Board were unwilling to address these concerns.”

Strike by Canadian border officers could stall border opening
